Here is where the two countries are most similar. Honduras tends to be a little
more mountainous, while Nicaragua has a long relatively unpopulated Pacific coast,
with the exception of the very southern area of San Juan del Sur. This area is beautiful
but expensive. It is close to Costa Rica and has become a magnate for North Americans,
Europeans, and a second home for the local wealthy.
If heat is an issue for you or your family, the mountain regions of both countries
are breathtaking and the only escape from the heat.
Years ago, I lived in Arizona (Phoenix area), and I thought the heat of Central
America wouldn’t pose a problem. While waiting in the bus in a shaded/covered garage,
I almost passed out. It was only 95° F at that time. This was in San Pedro Sula
(Honduras) near the Caribbean Coast. There is no cool time anywhere along the Caribbean
Coast at any time of year. Beautiful diving, fishing, beaches and crystal blue water
but air conditioning is a must.
